GOING BACK TO MY OLD LIBRARY

Year 2 | Issue 10 | October  2026 | Anglo-Saxon®

By Ana Suárez Rodríguez – Chile

Living by ourselves, using our minds and intelligence in a world that has many changes and gives us many views of real life, is very important for acquiring a strong understanding of the environment where we live. So, we can find different countries with different histories, cultures, ways of living, traditions, religions, and family ties because each country has its own background. So, I can be well informed about news everywhere through the media. But it is important to make a comparison between the culture that existed in the past and the one we know at present. There is a big difference between them. There is too much information right now that it is almost impossible to distinguish what is real or unreal. I think that this type of knowledge makes us forget information in a short period of time. We don’t have time to learn by heart what we have learned. I think that too much information spoils our perception of reality, and it doesn’t create human ties among human beings. Everything happens so fast that we don’t have time to connect with our inner world.

So, I prefer to go back to my old, beloved library, the secret place where I can get all the information I need. I still remember the great writer William Shakespeare. I remember the day when I read Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. My mind could imagine every paragraph I read. I really enjoyed it. I have beautiful memories of my childhood. That was a time when my mind began to grow with the knowledge that I acquired through reading novels.

The best time of my life was when I was in high school. I was so happy when my Spanish teacher taught us about El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, written by Cervantes. My classmates and I enjoyed his adventures and the culture in which the novel took place very much. It was so easy to imagine the events that happened in the place where the characters lived.

There were many famous writers who had an important role in life and culture all over the world. They were able to capture the essence of reality at that time. So, each book was a reflection of past times. It’s like a mirror where we can watch ourselves and compare our reality with that of the past. We have the possibility of learning about family life, the society where people lived, their culture, and even the weather in an exact period of time. The most important point is that we looked for that information in old books or got it through our teachers.

I want to tell everybody that the knowledge and experience that teachers have must be received and listened to by all the students in a classroom because teachers are trained through educational programs. They are the messengers who cause a strong change in human behavior and in the development of the world.

Don’t throw your old books away. Keep them with love. Certainly, you have modern novels from different countries. They are related to science fiction, technology, fantasy, etc. They are extraordinarily good. I have read many of them. I am very fond of them. But I want to give you a piece of advice: From time to time, go back to that place and read those lines that make your heart beat with pleasure. Do you know what the secret is? You are going to be able to compare culture, society, religion, and family life in the past with those of our present times. You will be able to visualize the truth about any event because you will be able to understand and predict events that happen. The reason is that through reading, you have become a wise person with an important role in society and with the capacity to provoke a positive change in the world because your mind was able to acquire meaningful values about love, peace, forgiveness, and friendship.

VOLVIENDO A MI ANTIGUA BIBLIOTECA.

No tires tus libros antiguos. He leído muchas de ellas. Me gustan mucho.
